Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Although this hadith is weak, the rulings mentioned in it are established in other ahadith. By “pecking” is meant haste while performing prostration (sajdah), and by the sitting posture of a dog or a fox is meant the prohibited form of iq’a’. It should be noted that there are two forms of iq’a’ in prayer: one is impermissible and one is permissible. The impermissible form of iq’a’: to sit on the buttocks with the shins and thighs upright and to place the hands on the ground. This hadith prohibits this form. The permissible form of iq’a’: during prayer, between the two prostrations, the worshipper stands his feet upright and places his buttocks on his heels. This form is Sunnah. Its details have already been discussed in the chapters on the Description of Prayer (Abwabu Sifati as-Salah).
