Hadith 1868

Mawla of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would finish his prayer with salam, he would seek forgiveness three times and then recite this supplication: "Allahumma anta as-salamu wa minka as-salam, tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram." (O Allah! You are Peace and from You is peace. You are blessed, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.)

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In one narration, instead of the words "إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ یَنْصَرِفَ" (when he intends to leave), the words "إِذَا اِنْصَرَفَ" (when he leaves) are mentioned, and at this place, the meaning of "departure" is that of the salutation (salam). The scholars of Islam are in agreement that after the salam, the above-mentioned and other prescribed remembrances (adhkar) are recommended (mustahabb), not obligatory (fard). In any case, the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) holds great importance, especially for people like us, in whose prayers there is much deficiency.
