Hadith 1853

. (Second chain) Ata bin Saib says: I went to Abu Abdur Rahman Sulami while he was sitting on his prayer mat after performing the Fajr prayer. I said to him: If you get up and go to your bed, it would be more comfortable for you. He replied: I heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever, after performing the Fajr prayer, sits on his prayer mat, the angels pray for mercy for him, ... . Then he mentioned as in the previous hadith.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Other narrations indicate that this virtue is not exclusive to the Fajr prayer, but rather pertains to every obligatory prayer. Furthermore, there are two conditions for it as well. Consider the following hadith:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Indeed, when one of you enters the mosque, he is considered to be in prayer as long as the prayer keeps him there, and the angels continue to send blessings upon one of you as long as he remains in the place where he performed the prayer. They say: ‘O Allah, forgive him. O Allah, have mercy on him. O Allah, turn towards him (in forgiveness).’ (This continues) as long as he does not lose his ablution (wudu) and does not harm anyone.”
