(Second chain) They said: When we followed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in prayer and turned for salam, we would say "Peace be upon you" and each of us would gesture with his hand to the right and to the left. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What is the matter with those people who gesture with their hands in prayer as if they are the tails of unruly horses? Is it not sufficient for one of you to place his hand on his thigh and then turn to the right and left for salam?

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of the blessed hadith is clear, and among us, the greeting of peace (salam) is given in accordance with this very Sunnah. One important clarification is necessary: the Hanafis have attempted to derive from the brief narration of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah radi Allahu anhu, which is related to this subject, that raising the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn) at the time of bowing (ruku‘) is being prohibited. However, the reality of the matter is that their inference is extremely weak, because in the detailed narration, there is a clear explanation regarding making a gesture at the time of salam.
