Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met me and said: O Mu’adh! Verily, I love you. I replied: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I also love you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I advise you with a few words; you must recite them after every prayer. They are: “O Allah! Help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.”

Benefits: … Generally, in small booklets, this supplication is mentioned among the remembrances (adhkar) after the prayer, but in reality, it is established from some of its chains that it is a supplication to be made before the salutation (salam), as is also evident from the wording of this hadith. In those narrations where only the words "after the prayer" (dubr as-salat) are mentioned, the decision has been made solely on the basis of these words that this supplication should be recited after the salam, and the clear wording of other chains, such as "in every prayer" (fi kulli salat), has not been considered, which would make it easy to decide that this supplication should be recited before the salam. Even in the words "dubr as-salat," there is the possibility that what is meant is to say it before exiting the prayer. These are prescribed (masnun) supplications; some other supplications are also established from other ahadith, and apart from these, the worshipper may also make any other beloved supplication, as has already been mentioned earlier.
