Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The mention of some supplications of prostration (sajdah) has already occurred previously in the chapter regarding the mention of remembrance (dhikr) in bowing (ruku‘). At present, the condition of both the common people and the elite is such that they consider it sufficient to say only “Subhana Rabbiyal A‘la” in prostration, and that too hastily and without reflecting on its meaning. As far as permissibility is concerned, reciting this dhikr is correct, but observing our situation, it can be said that this is a sign of lack of enthusiasm, and people have come to consider mere fulfillment as sufficient in matters of worship. It is evident that if the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has taught various supplications and remembrances for prostrations, then there is great wisdom in this, and that is so the worshipper may understand their meanings, develop greater humility and submissiveness, and increase in the reverence and devotion (khushu‘ and khudu‘) of the prayer.
