It is narrated from Sayyiduna Firoz Dailami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The links of Islam, that is, its commandments, will be undone one by one, just as a rope is broken thread by thread."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … At some places, shirk (associating partners with Allah) became prevalent, at others innovation (bid‘ah) gained ascendancy, elsewhere the Sunnahs were lost, in some places immodesty became widespread, in others the intermingling of men and women became apparent, somewhere adultery (zina) became common, elsewhere bribery danced, in some places usury (riba) sank its claws, at others the Islamic penal laws were mocked, in some places the people of knowledge were disgraced, elsewhere the downfall of mentors and guides occurred, there was killing and bloodshed, theft and robbery, violation of chastity, oppression and injustice, division of humanity into classes, ostentation and show, and the worst negligence in fulfilling the pillars and obligations of Islam… Believe me, there remains no praiseworthy action or statement that has not been abandoned, and no blameworthy deed that has not been committed. We ask Allah Ta‘ala for well-being.
