It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man: When you prostrate, place your forehead on the ground in such a way that you feel the solidity of the earth.

Benefits: … In Hadith number (1681), the meaning of the last sentence of this hadith has already been explained. All these ahadith pertain to the manner and posture of prostration (sajdah). The summary of these and other ahadith is as follows, and the reference to Musnad Ahmad has not been given:
(1) When going into prostration (sajdah), place the hands on the ground before the knees. (Abu Dawood: 840, Nasa’i: 1090) In the section “The States of Prostration and the Manner of Bending for It,” this issue has been clarified.
(2) Perform prostration (sajdah) on seven body parts (the forehead including the nose, both hands, both knees, and both feet). (Sahih Bukhari: 812, Sahih Muslim: 490)
(3) Keep both hands away from the sides (Abu Dawood: 734, Tirmidhi: 260, Ibn Majah: 863), the elbows should also be raised from the ground (Sahih Muslim: 494), and the chest, stomach, and thighs should be elevated from the ground; the stomach should be separated from the thighs, the thighs from the shins, and both thighs should also be kept apart from each other. (Abu Dawood: 730, 734, Tirmidhi: 304)
(4) The heels of the feet should be joined together (Mustadrak Hakim: 1/228, Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah: 654), the tips of the toes should face the qiblah, and the feet should be upright. (Sahih Bukhari: 828)
(5) The fingers of the hands should be joined together and facing the qiblah. (Hakim: 1/227, Bayhaqi: 2/112)
(6) The hands should be placed in line with the shoulders (Abu Dawood: 858, Tirmidhi: 255, Ibn Majah: 858) or in line with the ears. (Nasa’i: 1103)
