Hadith 1722

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you performs prostration, he should be moderate and should not spread his arms like a dog.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … At this point, the meaning of moderation is that in prostration (sujud), one should neither spread one’s arms on the ground nor keep them tightly attached to one’s body, but rather keep them in between. Place the palms on the ground, and keep the elbows separated from the ground and from the sides, and the stomach separated from the thighs, because in this manner there is greater humility, the servant remains distant from laziness, and the forehead settles well upon the ground.
