A wife of the Prophet, most likely Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about his recitation. She said: "You do not have the ability for it." Someone said to her: "At least tell us about it." In response, she recited and did so with pauses. Ibn Abi Mulayka narrated it as follows: She recited {اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰہِرَبِّالْعَالَمِیْنَ}, then paused, then recited {اَلرَّحْمٰنِالرَّحِیْمِ} and stopped at it, then recited {مَالِکِیَوْمِالدَّیِْن}.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This hadith has been narrated through various chains; two chains and their texts are presented below, please consider them carefully: Ibn Abi Mulaykah says: One of the wives of the Messenger of Allah, most likely it was Sayyidah Hafsah radi Allahu anha, was asked about the recitation of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. She said: You do not have the strength to recite as he did; he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to recite with pauses: {اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰہِرَبِّالْعَالَمِیْنَ۔اَلرَّحْمَنِالرَّحِیْمِ} (Sahih li ghayrihi, Musnad Ahmad: 26451). It is narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaykah that Sayyidah Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha was asked about the recitation of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. She said: He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to recite with pauses at every verse: {بِسْمِاللّٰہِالرَّحْمٰنِالرَّحِیْمِ۔اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰہِرَبِّالْعَالَمِیْنَ۔اَلرَّحْمٰنِالرَّحِیْمِ۔مَالِکِیَوْمِالدَّیِْن}. (Sahih li ghayrihi, Musnad Ahmad: 26583, Abu Dawud: 4001, Tirmidhi: 2927)
In summary, during the recitation of the Noble Qur’an, one should pause at every verse and also be mindful of reciting with deliberation. Alas! Most Muslims, when it comes to the recitation of the Qur’an, pay attention to quantity rather than quality, especially in Tarawih and during Ramadan. Their mindset is to complete the Qur’an as quickly as possible by reciting as many sections as they can. To such people, it is advised that first and foremost, they should bring beauty to their practice according to the standard, recite with tartil (measured recitation), and pause at every verse. If they desire greater quantity, then they should devote more time.
