Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be moderate, and the prayer of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was also like that, until Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and he lengthened the standing (qiyam) in the Fajr prayer.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of this hadith is not that the prayers of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the first Caliph were short, as will be evident from other ahadith in this chapter and from the summary given at the end. In any case, Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu) further increased the amount of recitation in the Fajr prayer.
