Benefits: … This hadith is weak, but reciting a verse after Surah al-Fatihah is permissible, as Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would mostly recite, in the first rak‘ah of the two Sunnah units of Fajr, verse 136 of Surah al-Baqarah {قُوْلُوْا آمَنَّا بِاللّٰہِ وَمَا اُنْزِلَ اِلَیْنَا وَمَا اُنْزِلَ اِلٰی اِبْرَاہِیْمَ وَاِسْمٰعِیْل وَاِسْحٰقَ وَیَعْقُوْبَ وَالْاَسْبَاطِ وَمَا اُوْتِیَ مُوْسٰی وَعِیْسٰی وَمَا اُوْتِیَ النَّبِیُّوْنَ مِنْ رَّبِّھِمْ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَیْنَ اَحَدٍ مِّنْھُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَہٗمُسْلِمُوْنَ۔}, and in the second rak‘ah, verse 52 of Surah Aal-e-Imran {قُلْ یٰأَھْلَ الْکِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلٰی کَلِمَۃٍ سَوَائٍ بَیْنَنَا وَبَیْنَکُمْ اَلَّا نَعْبُدَ اِلَّا اللّٰہَ وَلَانُشْرِکَ بِہٖشَیْئًا وَّلاَ یَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا اَرْبَابًا مِّنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰہِ فَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُوْلُوْا اشْھَدُوْ بِاَنَّا مُسْلِمُوْنَ}. (Musnad Ahmad: 2038, 2045; Muslim 727) In Musnad Ahmad and in one narration of Sahih Muslim, it is mentioned that in the second rak‘ah, this verse was recited: {فَلَمَّآ اَحَسَّ عِیْسٰی مِنْھُمُ الْکُفْرَ قَالَ مَنْ اَنْصَارِیْٓ اِلَی اللّٰہِ قَالَ الْحَوَارِیُّوْنَ نَحْنُ اَنْصَارُ اللّٰہِ آمَنَّا بِاللّٰہِ وَاشْھَدْ بِاَنَّا مُسْلِمُوْنَ}
