Hadith 1591

عَنِ الْبَيَاضِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ وَقَدْ عَلَتْ أَصْوَاتُهُمْ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ: ((إِنَّ الْمُصَلِّي يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ مَا يُنَاجِيهِ، وَلَا يَجْهَرْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ بِالْقُرْآنِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bayazi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the people while they were praying and their voices were raised with recitation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, the one who is praying is whispering to his Lord, so he should pay attention to whom he is whispering, and no one should recite the Qur'an aloud over another.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The essence of these ahadith is that when a worshipper hears the recitation of another worshipper, he will not be able to perform his prayer in a good manner and his attention will be distracted. Therefore, when people are praying at one place, they should observe complete silence. However, when someone is in seclusion, he may recite aloud in prayer. Those who start chatting near a worshipper should reflect upon their actions and consider that even the recitation of the Qur’an near a worshipper is impermissible. Worshippers should also realize from these ahadith how much concentration is required in prayer. But the condition of most worshippers is such that the words of prayer are memorized formulas for them, and they have no awareness of what they are saying. Moreover, they recite these words by rote to such an extent that they are not affected at all by sounds coming from nearby. This is the reason why our prayers have not been able to create within our conscience the status of Allah Ta’ala that should have been established.
