Hadith 1535

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: Surely, raising your hands in this manner is an innovation; the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not raise his hands above his chest.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This narration itself is weak, and it is also contrary to the most authentic marfu‘ narration of Abdullah ibn ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, in which it is mentioned to raise the hands up to the shoulders or near them. Similarly, in the forthcoming narration of Malik ibn Huwairith, it is mentioned to raise the hands up to the upper part of the ears. (Abdullah Rafiq)
