(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: أَقْبَلْتُ وَقَدْ نَاهَزْتُ الْحُلْمَ أَسِيرُ عَلَى أَتَانٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي لِلنَّاسِ يَعْنِي حَتَّى صِرْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ بَعْضِ الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ نَزَلْتُ عَنْهَا فَرَتَعَتْ فَصَفَفْتُ مَعَ النَّاسِ وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, says: I came riding on a donkey, at that time I was near the age of puberty. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was leading the people in prayer. In this state, I reached in front of a part of the first row, dismounted there, the donkey began to graze, and I stood in the row with the people following the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This is a perfect concession (rukhsah) of the Shari‘ah that followers (muqtadis) have been given the allowance not to place a barrier (sutrah). This is why it is permissible to pass in front of a follower during congregational prayer. In Hadith number (426), it has already been mentioned that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not allow a kid goat to pass in front of him during the congregation, but then it passed behind him, that is, in front of the people in the first row.
