Hadith 1486

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid and Abu Bishr Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading them in prayer one day at the place of Batha. A woman wanted to pass by, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to her to go back, so she turned back. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, then she passed by.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is established that at the time of necessity, during prayer (salah), such a gesture can be made by which something is intended to be conveyed; this is called *isharah mufhimah* (an explanatory gesture). This ruling is also established from several other ahadith.
