Abu al-Awbar says that a man came to Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Are you the one who forbids people from praying in shoes? Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: No, rather, by the Lord of this Haram, I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying towards this place while wearing shoes, and when he finished the prayer, he was wearing shoes. (Consider further that) the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting on Friday unless it coincides with other days. And in another narration: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he prayed in his shoes.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … except that it falls on other days, the meaning is that if a person is observing any type of fast and Friday happens to fall in between, then there is no harm in fasting on that day. The intent of the hadith is that Friday should not be singled out exclusively for fasting.
