Hadith 1418

عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((لَا تَرْتَدُوا الصَّمَّاءَ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَلَا يَأْكُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ بِشِمَالِهِ، وَلَا يَمْشِ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، وَلَا يَحْتَبِ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not wrap yourself completely in one cloth like a woman, and none of you should eat with his left hand, nor walk with one shoe, nor sit with one knee raised while wearing one cloth.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The explanation of “ishtimal as-samma’” and “goth maarna” has already been given above. Eating with the left hand and walking in a single shoe have been prohibited, because both are habits of Shaytan. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Let each of you eat with his right hand, drink with his right hand, take with his right hand, and give with his right hand, for indeed Shaytan eats with his left hand, drinks with his left hand, gives with his left hand, and takes with his left hand.” (Ibn Majah: 2/303, Ahmad: 2/325/349, Sahihah: 1236)
