Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw men in prayer following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), tying their lower garments around their necks like children because their izars were tight. Someone said: O group of women! Do not raise your heads until the men have raised theirs.
Hadith Referenceالفتح الربانی / أبواب المساجد / 1408
Benefits: … In times of necessity, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam permitted performing prayer in only an izar (lower garment), as is evident from the aforementioned narrations. Therefore, this hadith does not mean that the private parts (‘awrah) of the followers of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam were being exposed. Its meaning is that when clothing is tight, there is a possibility of exposure during movement or for some other reason; thus, women have been advised to exercise caution.
