Hadith 1349

Sayyiduna Abu Sahla Sa’ib bin Khallad رضي الله عنه narrates that a man was leading the people in prayer while the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم was watching him. During the prayer, he spat in the direction of the qiblah. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said: This person should not lead you in prayer again. Later, when he intended to lead the prayer, the people stopped him and informed him of the statement of the Messenger of Allah He mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, and he صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said to him: Yes, (I forbade you) because you have offended Allah Almighty.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Abu Dawud, it is stated: ((INNAKA QAD AAZAYTALLAHA WA RASULAHU)) "You have caused harm to Allah and His Messenger." This is a very severe rebuke. Its meaning is that this person has done something which Allah and His Messenger do not like. Those who undertake responsibilities such as leading the prayer (imamat) and delivering sermons (khitabat) should take heed, and, valuing their position, should strive to refrain from all impurities.
