Hadith 1339

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you is in the mosque, Satan makes an excuse with him, just as a man makes an excuse with his animal. When he settles it for him, he bends it down or puts a bridle on it. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: You see all this; the one who is bent down, you see him bent in such a way that he does not remember Allah, and the one who is bridled, he opens his mouth and thus does not remember Allah.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … SubhanAllah! How truthfully the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) spoke! The people of the present age are the most evident example of this hadith. Apart from the obligatory prayers, coming to the mosque is out of the question; even for the performance of these obligatory prayers, the large number of those who used to come to the mosque has disappeared, and those who do come, they delay in arriving and hasten in leaving. Now it has become clear that Shaytan enters into the chests of these poor souls and, by snatching away tranquility from their hearts, drives them away from the mosque. Granted, some people may be compelled by necessity, but it is not understandable as a general rule that for the ‘Isha prayer in the mosque, only three rows of worshippers are formed; at the beginning of the prayer, only half a row was present, and even those who were in one and a half rows did not have time to listen to a brief lesson after the prayer, for immediately after the salam, they began to leave the mosque.
