Hadith 1334

Sayyiduna Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me in the mosque while I had interlaced my fingers. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: O Ka’b! When you are in the mosque, do not interlace your fingers, because as long as you are waiting for the prayer, you are considered to be in prayer.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Tashbik: To interlace the fingers of one hand firmly into the fingers of the other hand. However, keep in mind that tashbik is not absolutely prohibited; rather, it is only prohibited when a person is going towards the mosque with the intention of prayer, or is waiting for prayer, or is performing the prayer, because in one hadith the reason for prohibiting tashbik is stated that when a person is going towards the mosque for prayer, he is considered to be in prayer itself. Apart from these situations, it is established in several instances that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed tashbik, as in the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah and Sayyiduna Dhul-Yadayn radi Allahu anhuma, where the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, after completing two rak‘ahs of the Dhuhr or ‘Asr prayer, gave salam and stood leaning against a piece of wood lying in the mosque, while he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had performed tashbik. (Bukhari, Muslim) Similarly, Sayyiduna Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: A believer to another believer is like a building, each part strengthening the other. Then, to explain this, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed tashbik. (Sahih Bukhari)
