In the explanation of Allah Almighty’s command {کُلُّ اُمَّۃٍ تُدْعِی اِلٰی کِتاَبھَا} (Every group will be called to its record of deeds), Imam Zuhri narrates from Ata bin Yazid Laithi, who narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that people asked: O Messenger of Allah! Will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you face any difficulty in seeing the full moon on the night of the fourteenth, when there are no clouds before it? The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Not at all. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the same way, you will see Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection. Allah Almighty will gather all people and say: Follow whatever you used to worship in the world. So, those who worshipped the moon will follow the moon, those who worshipped the sun will follow the sun, and those who worshipped other false gods will follow them. The people of this Ummah will remain standing, and among them will be hypocrites. Allah will come to you in a form other than the one you recognize and will say: I am your Lord. They will say: We seek refuge in Allah from your evil; we will stay here until our Lord comes to us. When our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him. After that, Allah Almighty will come to them in the form they recognize and will say: I am your Lord. They will say: Indeed, You are our Lord, so they will follow Him.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A bridge will be set up over Hell, and I will be the first to cross it. On that day, all the Prophets and Messengers will be saying out of fear and dread: O Allah, save us! O Allah, protect us! On that bridge will be hooks like the thorns of Sa‘dan. Have you seen the thorns of Sa‘dan? The Companions said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, only Allah knows the size of those thorns. People will be snatched away according to their deeds; some will perish just like that, and some will be destroyed in pieces. Until, when Allah Almighty has finished judging between His servants and intends to show mercy to some of the people of Hell who testified to the Oneness of Allah, He will command the angels to bring them out of Hell. The angels will recognize the people of Tawheed by the marks of prostration. Allah Almighty has forbidden the Fire to consume the marks of prostration. The angels will bring them out; they will have been burnt and turned into charcoal. The water of life will be poured over them, and they will grow as seeds sprout in the foam of a flood. Among these people, one man will remain. He will turn to Allah Almighty and say: O my Lord! The air of Hell has harmed me, and its intense heat has burnt me, so turn my face away from the Fire. He will keep supplicating until Allah Almighty says to him: If I grant you this, will you ask for anything else? He will say: By Your honor, O Allah, I will not ask for anything more. So Allah Almighty will turn his face away from the Fire. But after that, he will say: O my Lord! Bring me near the gate of Paradise. Allah Almighty will say: Did you not promise that you would not ask for anything more? O son of Adam! How treacherous you are with your promises! But he will keep calling upon Allah and supplicating to Him until Allah Almighty says: If I grant you this, will you ask for anything more? He will say: By Your honor, O Allah, I will not ask for anything more. He will make a firm promise to Allah Almighty, so Allah will bring him near the gate of Paradise. When he reaches near the gate of Paradise, Paradise will become visible and vast for him. When he sees the comforts and joys inside Paradise, he will remain silent for a while, but eventually he will say: O my Lord! Admit me into Paradise. Allah Almighty will say: Did you not promise that you would not ask for anything more, and you have made firm promises to Me in this regard? He will say: O Lord! Do not deprive me of Your blessings among Your creation. He will keep calling upon Allah and supplicating to Him until Allah Almighty laughs at his words. When Allah Almighty laughs at his words, He will permit him to enter Paradise. When he enters Paradise, it will be said to him: Wish for whatever you can wish for, ask for whatever you can ask for. So he will ask abundantly. Then it will be said to him: Ask for more, so he will ask for more, until his desires are exhausted. At that time, Allah Almighty will say to him: Whatever you have asked for, all of it and as much more is given to you.
When Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith, Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) was also sitting nearby. He did not make any change in what he narrated, except regarding the last part, Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) clarified: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whatever you have asked for, you will get that and ten times more. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I remember it as: Allah Almighty will say to him: Whatever you have asked for, you are given this and as much more. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: This will be the last person to enter Paradise.
