شَهَادَةُ الْأَرْضِ وَأَعْضَاءِ الْإِنْسَانِ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِThe testimony of the earth and the limbs of man against him on the Day of Resurrection
Hadith 13160
اُردوEn
وَعَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”إِنَّ أَوَّلَ عَظْمٍ مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ يَتَكَلَّمُ يَوْمَ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى الْأَفْوَاهِ فَخِذُهُ مِنَ الرِّجْلِ الشِّمَالِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, when a seal will be set upon the mouths of people, the first to speak will be the thigh bone of the left leg of a person, and it will testify against him by describing his deeds.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … (1) From this section, it is understood that one should recite a verse and then explain its meaning and purport, drawing people’s attention to it.
(2) It is also understood that this earth appears lifeless and devoid of consciousness to us. However, Allah Ta‘ala has granted it an awareness and understanding befitting it. And on the Day of Resurrection, Allah Ta‘ala will bestow upon the earth the power of speech. Whatever deeds every person performed upon its surface, it will declare them openly.
(3) Similarly, human limbs, which in our view are mute and devoid of consciousness, by Allah Ta‘ala’s command, on the Day of Resurrection, people’s mouths will be sealed, and the limbs with which people performed deeds will speak out and testify against them, as mentioned in the Noble Qur’an:
{وَیَوْمَ یُحْشَرُ اَعْدَائُ اللّٰہِ اِلَی النَّارِ فَھُمْ یُوْزَعُوْنَ، حَتّٰی اِذَا مَا جَائُ وْھَا شَھِدَ عَلَیْھِمْ سَمْعُھُمْ وَاَبْصَارُھُمْ وَجُلُوْدُھُمْ بِمَا کَانُوْا یَعْمَلُوْنَ وَقَالُوْا: لِجُلُوْدِھِمْ لِمَ شَھِدْتُّمْ عَلَیْنَا قَالُوْا: اَنْطَقَنَا اللّٰہُ الَّذِیْ اَنْطَقَ کُلَّ شَیْئٍ } (Ha Mim As-Sajdah: 19, 20, 21).
And on the Day when the enemies of Allah Ta‘ala will be driven towards Hell, they will be arranged in ranks, until when they reach it, their ears, their eyes, and their skins will testify against them regarding what they used to do. And they will say to their limbs, “Why did you testify against us?” They will reply, “Allah Ta‘ala, Who gave speech to all things, has given us speech as well.”
Similarly, in Surah Ya-Sin it is stated:
{اَلْیَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلٰٓی اَفْوَاہِہِمْ وَتُکَلِّمُنَآ اَیْدِیْہِمْ وَتَشْہَدُ اَرْجُلُہُمْ بِمَا کَانُوْا یَکْسِبُوْنَo}
(Ya-Sin: 65)
On that Day, We will seal their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to earn.
(4) It is also understood that among human limbs, the left thigh bone will be the first to speak and declare a person’s deeds. And a seal will be set upon the person’s mouth, so he will not be able to say anything with his tongue.
