It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yajuj and Majuj dig at the wall every day. When the sun is about to set, their leader says: Go back, you will dig it tomorrow. But when they come the next day, the wall is even stronger than before. (This happens every day) until their appointed time is fulfilled and Allah wills that they come out to the people. They will dig in the same way, and when the sun is about to set, this time their leader will say: Go back, if Allah wills, you will dig the rest tomorrow. This time he will say insha’Allah. The next day, when they come, they will find it in the same condition as they left it, so they will dig through it and come out to the people. They will drink up all the waters, and people, out of fear of them, will lock themselves in their forts. (After taking control of the earth) Yajuj and Majuj will shoot arrows towards the sky, and the arrows will return blood-stained. Seeing this, they will say: We have prevailed over the people of the earth and the people of the sky as well. Then Allah will create a worm in their necks, because of which they will die. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! The animals of the earth will become fat and healthy by eating their flesh and blood.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah writes: Hafiz Ibn Kathir, referencing Musnad Ahmad, mentioned this hadith in the story of Dhu’l-Qarnayn and Gog and Magog (Ya’juj wa Ma’juj) in connection with this verse: {فَمَااسْطَاعُوْٓااَنْیَّظْہَرُوْہُوَمَااسْتَطَاعُوْالَہٗنَقْبًا} (Surah al-Kahf: 97) … Thus, neither were they (Gog and Magog) able to scale it, nor were they able to pierce it.
Then, after mentioning this story, he said: The chain of this hadith is sound (jayyid), but it does not seem correct to narrate its text as marfu‘ (attributed directly to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), because the apparent meaning of the verse indicates that the wall was so strong and firm that neither could they climb over it nor could they make a hole in it.
I (al-Albani) say: This verse in no way indicates that they will never have the power to do so. The blessed verse is informing about the past, while the hadith is giving information about the future. It is clear, then, that there is no contradiction between the verse and the hadith; rather, this hadith fully conveys the meaning of the following verse: {حَتّٰٓیاِذَافُتِحَتْیَاْجُوْجُوَمَاْجُوْجُوَہُمْمِّنْکُلِّحَدَبٍیَّنْسِلُوْنَ۔} (Surah al-Anbiya: 96) … Until Gog and Magog are let loose, and they will surge forth from every elevation.
After writing this, I reviewed this story in Imam Ibn Kathir’s (al-Bidayah wa’l-Nihayah: 2/122), and I found that he gave a similar answer; yes, along with this, he also mentioned some other matters. (Sahihah: 1735)
