Hadith 12979

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will appear from a place called Khurasan, located in the direction of the east, and people will follow him whose faces will be broad and flat like shields.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Abdur Rahman Mubarakpuri rahimahullah says: Mawara’ al-Nahr and the regions of Iraq are among the well-known areas of Khurasan. Now, Herat is called Khurasan, most of which is the Khurasan mentioned in the prophecy of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Understand it exactly as Damascus is called Sham (Greater Syria). (Whereas the Sham mentioned in the ahadith is the northern region of the Arabian Peninsula, which comprises present-day Syria, including Antakya, Jordan, and Palestine up to Asqalan.) As for the issue of the followers of those people mentioned in this hadith, these innate characteristics are found among the Turkic and Uzbek peoples. (Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi: 3/234) Due to changes in geographical boundaries, there has always been a difference between the ancient and modern names of regions.
