(Second chain) ‘Amir Sha‘bi narrates that it is reported from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came quickly and sat on the pulpit, and it was announced among the people: “As-Salat Jami‘ah (the prayer is gathering).” The people gathered together. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O people! I have not called you to tell you any pleasing or frightening news that has been revealed today. The matter is that Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) has given me some news, and I want to tell you that. The details are that some people from Palestine set out on a sea journey, and due to a storm, they reached a sea island. There they saw an animal covered entirely with hair, and because of the abundance of hair, it could not be distinguished whether it was male or female. Anyway, they asked it: ‘Who are you?’ It said: ‘I am Jassasah.’ They said: ‘Tell us something.’ It said: ‘No, I have neither to tell you anything nor to ask you anything. However, there is a man in that monastery who is eager to tell you some things and to ask you some things.’ These people went to that place, and there was a one-eyed man bound in chains. He asked: ‘Who are you people?’ They said: ‘We are Arabs.’ He asked: ‘Has a Prophet been sent among you?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ He asked: ‘Have the Arabs obeyed him?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘That is better for them.’ He asked: ‘What has become of Persia? Has this Prophet prevailed over them?’ They said: ‘No, he has not yet prevailed over them.’ He said: ‘But soon he will prevail over them.’ Then he asked: ‘What is the condition of the spring of Zughar?’ They said: ‘It is full and overflowing.’ He asked: ‘Tell me about the date palms of Baisan, do they bear fruit?’ They said: ‘Yes, its trees are bearing fruit.’ Hearing this, he jumped up vigorously; we thought he might break free from his chains. Then we asked him: ‘Who are you?’ He said: ‘I am the Dajjal, and beware, soon I will trample the whole earth except for Makkah and Taybah (i.e., Madinah).’ Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘O group of Muslims! Rejoice, this is Taybah, the Dajjal will not be able to enter it.’

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Since this is an authentic (sahih) hadith, it is necessary to have faith in the matters described within it. Jassasah: This is an animal that was seen on a certain sea island; it is called Jassasah because it inquires about the news of Dajjal. Abdur Rahman bin Amr bin As says that by this is meant the Dabbah (Beast) of the earth, the details of which are as follows:

Regarding the Dabbah (beast of the earth), Allah the Exalted has said: {وَ اِذَا وَقَعَ الْقَوْلُ عَلَیْہِمْ اَخْرَجْنَا عَلَیْہِمْ دَآبَّۃً مِّنَ الْاَرْضِ تُکَلِّمُہُمْ اَنَّ النَّاسَ کَانُوْا بِاٰیٰتِنَا لَا یُوْقِنُوْنَ} (Surah An-Naml: 82) … When the word will be fulfilled against them, We shall bring forth for them a creature from the earth that will speak to them, because mankind did not believe with assurance in Our signs.

It is narrated in Sahih Muslim that the very first sign to appear will be the rising of the sun from the west instead of the east, and the emergence of the beast at the time of forenoon (duha). The reason for the emergence of the beast is that people will not be believing in the signs or verses of Allah the Exalted; Allah will show His sign through this beast.
