Hadith 12971

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was mentioned in the presence of the Dajjal. He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: I fear the tribulations among you, that is, mutual conflicts and quarrels, more than the tribulation of the Dajjal. And (listen) since the world was established, all the minor and major tribulations that have appeared, all of them were for the sake of the tribulation of the Dajjal.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has declared certain tribulations that affect the religion to be the greatest of all tribulations. For example: the tribulation of the tongue, the tribulation of the hypocrites, the tribulation of worldly wealth and riches, and the tribulation of ostentation (riya’).

Consider the following hadith, in which the tribulation of misguiding rulers is declared to be greater than that of the Dajjal:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu, who says: “One day I was walking alongside the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam towards his house, and I heard him say: ‘Other than the Dajjal, there is something I fear more for my ummah than the Dajjal.’ When I feared that he would enter his house, I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! What is it that you fear most for your ummah, more than the Dajjal?’ He said: ‘The misguiding leaders.’” (Musnad Ahmad: 5/145)

The real matter is that the trial of the Messiah Dajjal will be physical, and for eternal and everlasting felicity, it will be possible to endure it through patience. However, the consequences of trials such as hidden shirk (shirk khafi), ostentation (riya’), and misguiding rulers will be restlessness in this world and loss in the Hereafter.
