Sayyiduna Mustawrid Fahri (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him): At the time when the Day of Judgment is established, the number of Romans will be the greatest. Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Consider carefully, what are you saying? He replied: I am telling you exactly what I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you are saying this, then the reason is that the Romans possess these four qualities: (1) If they flee from the battlefield, they return very quickly to launch a (retaliatory) attack, (2) they are much better than others in regard to the rights of the poor, needy, and weak, (3) they prove to be the most courageous at the time of battle, and (4) these people are the foremost in restraining the oppression of kings.
