Benefits: … Due to disobedience to Allah Ta'ala and His Messenger, Muslims experience lack of blessing, misfortune, filth, and impurity, but the apparent greatest harm of this sin is that the Muslim becomes overawed and the disbeliever becomes dominant. At present, no Islamic state is independent in its affairs of governance; rather, not even two Islamic countries can freely trade with each other at their own discretion, nor can they transfer weapons to one another. Instead, according to the signals of outsiders, they create tension in their mutual relations, and it is observed that a Muslim ruler is granting permission to the world of disbelief to use his country's land and bases to attack a Muslim state. Keep in mind that this is not the awe of the disbelievers; this is cowardice of our own, this is greed for positions, this is the result of distancing from Islam. In the words of Allamah Iqbal:
They were honored in the world by being Muslims,
You became disgraced by abandoning the Qur'an.
Reflect: Why was there dominance and awe in Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab radi Allahu anhu? The very reason was that he sought honor and greatness in Islam, whereas we have considered estrangement from Islam as a sign of the strength of our rule.
