Hadith 12858

عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”إِنَّ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ لَا يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا لِلْمَعْرِفَةِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is also among the signs of the Hour, that a man will greet another only because of acquaintance and familiarity.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This ailment too has become widespread among Muslims, whereas the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, keeping in view the bond of Islam, has commanded that the greeting of salam be made common. However, personal acquaintance has come to dominate us.
