Hadith 12844

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ يُرَى رُعَاةُ الشَّاءِ رُؤُوسَ النَّاسِ وَأَنْ يُرَى الْحُفَاةُ الْعُرَاةُ الْجُوعُ يَتَبَارَوْنَ فِي الْبِنَاءِ وَأَنْ تَلِدَ الْأَمَةُ رَبَّهَا أَوْ رَبَّتَهَا“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Among the signs of the Day of Judgment is that the shepherds of goats will become the leaders and rulers of the people, and the barefoot, naked, and hungry people will compete with each other in constructing buildings, and slave girls will give birth to their masters or mistresses.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … For a long time, these three signs have been visibly manifesting; let us see what happens in the future.
Slave-girls will give birth to their masters or mistresses. Various interpretations of this have been given; some of them are:
1. Disobedience to parents will become extremely widespread; children will treat them in the same manner as masters treat their slaves.
2. By "master" is meant those who nurture and train (murabbis), that is, people will forget the favors of their nurturers and will impose their own authority over them.
3. This is merely an example; its intended meaning is that times will change and people's conditions will be transformed, such that the noble and those in power will become humiliated, and the unworthy and lowly people will attain high status and kingship.
4. Slave-girls will give birth to kings, and this is in the sense that in earlier times, kings were inclined towards free women and felt ashamed to have intercourse with slave-girls, but circumstances and inclinations changed, and children began to be born from their slave-girls, who then inherited kingship. This continued to happen among the Banu Abbas.
5. Corruption will spread in circumstances, and there will be an abundance of buying and selling of umm al-walad (slave-girls who have borne children), to the extent that a person will purchase such a slave-girl who is actually his mother, and then he will treat her as a master treats a slave.
