It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said anything about Musaylimah, people talked a lot about him. Eventually, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) stood up to deliver a sermon and said: "As for what follows! You have talked a lot about this man, whereas the reality is that he is one of the thirty great liars who will appear before the Day of Judgment. And (remember that) the awe and fear of the Antichrist (Masih Dajjal) will reach every city in the world except Madinah Munawwarah. On every road leading to Madinah Munawwarah, there will be two angels appointed; they will keep the fear of the Antichrist away from this city."
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “While I was sleeping, the treasures of the earth were brought to me, and two gold bangles were placed in my hands. They weighed heavily upon me and caused me distress and anxiety. It was revealed to me: ‘Blow on them.’ So I blew on them, and they both disappeared. I interpreted this dream as referring to two liars between whom I am: (1) the master of Sana’a (i.e., Aswad Ansi) and (2) the master of Yamamah (i.e., Musaylimah the Liar).” (Sahih Bukhari: 4375, 7037; Sahih Muslim: 7/58)
Aswad Ansi and Musaylimah were two false claimants to prophethood. In Yemen, peace and Islam had been established, and in every region, the officials of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam were present. Suddenly, in a city called Kahf Hanan, Aswad Ansi appeared with seven hundred warriors. He claimed prophethood and rulership for himself, advanced, and seized control of Sana’a. His trial intensified and his power in governance increased, to the extent that the officials of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam withdrew to the region of the Ash’aris. The Muslims dealt with him with prudence. This situation continued for three or four months. Then Fayruz Daylami and his Persian companions, who had become Muslim, devised a plan, and Fayruz killed him, cut off his head, and threw it outside the fortress. Seeing this, his companions fled, the people of Islam prevailed, and the officials of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam returned to their duties. The news of this was written and sent to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The incident of his killing occurred one day before the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, so the letter from the Companions reached during the era of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq radi Allahu anhu, but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had already informed the Companions of it through revelation.
After the conquest of Makkah, among the various delegations from different tribes who came to the service of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and accepted Islam, Musaylimah bin Habib was also included in the delegation of Banu Hanifah. When he returned to his homeland, Yamamah, and during those days the news of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam’s illness became widespread, he claimed prophethood. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam departed from this transient world without being able to take practical action against him. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq radi Allahu anhu, due to various reasons, was also unable to immediately deal with Musaylimah. Eventually, he appointed Ikrimah bin Abu Jahl to suppress Musaylimah. In the first battle, Musaylimah was defeated, but then forty thousand warriors from the tribe of Rabi’ah gathered around Musaylimah. Among them, some considered him a liar, but on the basis of tribalism, they desired his success. … … Even inside the garden, when the turmoil intensified, Musaylimah was compelled to arm himself, mount his horse, and began urging people to fight. But when he saw Muslims prevailing everywhere, he dismounted and tried to quietly leave the garden. Coincidentally, Wahshi was standing near the gate of the garden; he threw his spear, which pierced through Musaylimah’s double armor and came out of his belly. In the end, the enemies fled in every direction wherever they found a way.
