Hadith 1279

Sayyiduna Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) giving the adhan, that he would turn (while saying "Hayya 'ala-s-Salah" and "Hayya 'ala-l-Falah") and I was watching his mouth turning this way and that. In another narration, it is further stated: that he was turning to the right and left and had both his fingers in his ears.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Sunan Abu Dawood, these words are present: "He turned his neck to the right and to the left and did not turn his whole body" (i.e., he turned his neck to the right and left but did not turn his entire body). However, Imam al-Albani rahimahullah has stated that the words "and did not turn his whole body" are shaadh (irregular), rather they are munkar (rejected), because in its chain of narration is Qais ibn Rabi', who is weak. In the blessed ahadith, only the turning of the face and neck is mentioned. However, if the muezzin, along with turning his neck, also turns his body, then insha’Allah there is no legal objection to this. And Allah knows best.
