عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! عَلِّمْنِي سُنَّةَ الْأَذَانِ فَمَسَحَ بِمُقَدَّمِ رَأْسِي وَقَالَ: ((قُلْ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرْ تَرْفَعُ بِهَا صَوْتَكَ، ثُمَّ تَقُولُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، مَرَّتَيْنِ تَخْفِضُ بِهَا صَوْتَكَ، ثُمَّ تَرْفَعُ صَوْتَكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، مَرَّتَيْنِ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، مَرَّتَيْنِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ، مَرَّتَيْنِ، فَإِنْ كَانَ صَلَاةُ الصُّبْحِ قُلْتَ: الصَّلَاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ النَّوْمِ، الصَّلَاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ النَّوْمِ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، (زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ) قَالَ: وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى لَا يُرَجِّعُ))
Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Teach me the method of the adhan.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over the front of my head and said: Say in a loud voice: ALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU AKBAR, then say twice in a low voice: ASH-HADU ALLA ILAHA ILLALLAH, ASH-HADU ALLA ILAHA ILLALLAH, ASH-HADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN RASULULLAH, ASH-HADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN RASULULLAH, then raise your voice and say twice: ASH-HADU ALLA ILAHA ILLALLAH, and twice: ASH-HADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN RASULULLAH, then say twice each: HAYYA ‘ALAS-SALAH, HAYYA ‘ALAS-SALAH, HAYYA ‘ALAL-FALAH, HAYYA ‘ALAL-FALAH. If it is the morning prayer, say: AS-SALATU KHAYRUN MINAN-NAWM, AS-SALATU KHAYRUN MINAN-NAWM, ALLAHU AKBAR, LA ILAHA ILLALLAH. In another narration, it is further stated: In the iqamah, say the phrases twice each, without tarji‘.
