It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Amir Ash'ari that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best tribe is Banu Asad and the Ash'aris, and these people do not turn their backs and flee from the battlefield, nor do they commit treachery. They are from me and I am from them. Amir said: I narrated this hadith to Sayyiduna Muawiyah, and he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say it like that, rather he said: They are from me and their connection is with me. Amir said: My father did not narrate it to me from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this way, rather he said: They are from me and I am from them. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Muawiyah said: You know better the words narrated by your father. Abdullah bin Imam Ahmad said: This is among the excellent ahadith; only Jarir has narrated it.
