Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radi Allahu anhu is: “The mu’adhdhins will have the longest necks among the people on the Day of Resurrection.” (Muslim) What is the meaning of “the mu’adhdhins will have the longest necks”? Various explanations have been given. If this is taken in its literal sense, it is more appropriate, because even today, to a reasonable extent, having a long neck is considered a sign of beauty. Some further meanings are as follows:
Those with abundant reward and recompense.
Those with the most deeds.
These words are an allusion to their leadership, because the Arabs often express leadership (sayadah) by referring to long necks.
By this is meant that they will attain joy and happiness and will be safe from regret and remorse.
When the sweat of people will reach their mouths, the necks of the mu’adhdhins will be lengthened so that they are protected from this distress and torment. And Allah knows best.
