Hadith 12517

عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ أَخِي أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فَنَاءَ أُمَّتِي فِي سَبِيلِكَ بِالطَّعْنِ وَالطَّاعُونِ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari’s brother, Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Make the death of my Ummah such that they die by the spear in Your path or by plague.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Death through it is true martyrdom; what is meant is the death that occurs in jihad in the path of Allah, and those who die from the plague will have the ruling of martyrdom. One should ask Allah Ta’ala for well-being, but if someone is afflicted with any illness, he should be patient and not complain about Allah Ta’ala.
