It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of you and the Jews and Christians is like that of a man who hired many people as laborers and said to them: Who will work from morning till midday for one qirat each? The Jews worked on this condition. Then he said: Who will work from midday till the Asr prayer for one qirat each? The Christians accepted this condition and worked. Then he said: Who will work from the Asr prayer till sunset for two qirats each? Beware! It is you who work for a short time and receive more wages. Upon hearing this, the Jews and Christians became angry, saying: We worked more and received less wages. Allah Almighty said: First tell me, have I reduced anything from your right or have I wronged you in any way regarding your wages? They said: No, by no means. Allah Almighty said: This is My grace, I bestow it upon whom I will.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Allah Ta'ala has bestowed such grace upon the Ummah of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that He has granted them greater reward in exchange for a lesser amount of time. From this hadith, there is no scope to deduce that the time for the 'Asr prayer begins when the shadow reaches twice its length; this subject has already been discussed in the relevant chapters.
