Hadith 12476

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Maymun bin Sanbaz, may Allah be pleased with him, a companion, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The stability of my Ummah will be through bad people. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said this three times.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Two meanings of this hadith have been stated:

(1) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Indeed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, strengthens this religion through a wicked man.” … Allah Ta’ala will strengthen this religion through a wicked person. (Sahih Ibn Hibban: 1607, Tabarani al-Kabir: 8963, 9094, Sahihah: 1649)

How Allah Ta’ala grants victory to His religion through such a person is explained in the following hadith:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu says: We participated in the Battle of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. There was a man who claimed to be a Muslim, but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said about him that he is from the people of Hellfire.

When we began fighting, that man fought fiercely on the side of the Muslim army. He himself was also wounded. Someone said: O Messenger of Allah! The man about whom you said he is from the people of Hellfire, today he fought very well and was martyred? The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: He is from the people of Hellfire. It was almost that some Muslims began to doubt because of this statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Then it was said that the man has not died yet, but he is indeed severely wounded. It was nighttime, and he could not bear the pain of his wound, so he committed suicide. When the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was informed of this situation, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: Allahu Akbar, I bear witness that I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Then he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ordered Sayyiduna Bilal radi Allahu anhu to announce: Only a Muslim will enter Paradise, and indeed Allah Ta’ala strengthens this religion through a wicked man. (Bukhari: 3062, Muslim)

(2) The second meaning is that, in most eras of the Ummah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, there will be evil and oppressive rulers and governors, while at the same time, the work of Allah Ta’ala’s religion will continue to take place. It is as if the wicked people are the cause of the stability of this Ummah.
