Hadith 12466

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: At the end of the world and at the time of the appearance of tribulations, a man named Saffah will appear, he will distribute wealth and riches among the people with both hands full.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … These narrations are indeed weak; however, by "Saffah" is meant Abu al-Abbas Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib bin Hashim. He was born in the year 104 AH in the locality of Humeimah, in the region of Balqa, and was raised there. He became the successor of his brother Ibrahim Imam, and was younger in age than his brother Mansur. He was the first caliph of the Abbasids.

Abdullah Saffah was distinguished for bloodshed, generosity, quick-wittedness, and sharp intelligence. The officials of Saffah were also adept in bloodshed.

After dispatching Abu Muslim and Abu Ja'far, Abu al-Abbas Abdullah Saffah ruled as caliph for four years and eight months, and passed away on the 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 136 AH.

! In Al-Mustadrak of Hakim and Shu'ab al-Iman of Bayhaqi, only the following words are found: "Indeed, he will rule over this Ummah, with their number, from your loins," meaning that from your progeny, individuals equal in number to those stars of Thurayya will rule over this Ummah. In terms of meaning, this matter is quite clear. (Abdullah Rafiq)
