(Second chain) Rifa’ah says: I was standing over Mukhtar’s head, and when I became certain of his falsehood, I intended to draw my sword and strike off his neck. But then I remembered the hadith that Sayyiduna Amr bin Humaq (may Allah be pleased with him) had narrated. He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever grants someone safety for his life and then kills him, a banner of treachery will be given to him on the Day of Resurrection.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Mukhtar bin Abi Ubaid al-Thaqafi, he used to reside with Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu in Iraq. After his martyrdom, he settled in Basrah. Then he pledged allegiance to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair radi Allahu anhu, who appointed him as the governor of Kufa. However, he broke this allegiance and, claiming the leadership (imamah) of Ibn al-Hanafiyyah, began searching for the killers of Sayyiduna Husayn radi Allahu anhu. After that, he claimed prophethood and the descent of revelation upon himself. Thus, Mus'ab bin Zubair turned his attention towards him and killed him in 67 AH. His circumstances can be read in various books of history.
