Kulthum bin Jabr says: We were present at the house of Abdul A’la bin Abdullah bin Aamir in a place called Wasit al-Qasab. There was a man named Abu al-Ghadiyah in the gathering. He asked for water to drink, and he was given water in a vessel whose rim was broken. He refused to drink water from that vessel, and during the conversation, the mention of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his saying also came up, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not become disbelievers after me, striking the necks of one another.” That same man, during the conversation, began to curse and speak ill of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: By Allah, if Allah gives me an opportunity over you in any army, then we shall see. On the day of the Battle of Siffin, he was wearing armor, and aiming for an opening in the rings of his armor, I struck him with a spear and killed him. He was Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him). Kulthum says: What kind of hand is this of a young man, that one day, in view of the hadith of the Prophet, he refused to drink water from a vessel with a broken rim, and on another occasion, he killed Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him).
