الْفَضْلُ السَّادِسُ فِي اخْتِيَارِهِ قَاضِيَا لِلْيَمَنِ وَإِنَّهُ أكْثَرُ الأُمَّةِ الْمُحَمَّدِيَّةِ عِلْمًا وَأَعْظَمُهُمْ حِلْمًا وَأَقْدَمُهُمْ سَلَمًاThe Sixth Virtue Regarding His Appointment as Judge of Yemen, That He Was the Most Knowledgeable and Forbearing of the Ummah, and the Most Peaceful
Hadith 12322

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ وَأَنَا حَدِيثُ السِّنِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ تَبْعَثُنِي إِلَى قَوْمٍ يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُمْ أَحْدَاثٌ وَلَا عِلْمَ لِي بِالْقَضَاءِ قَالَ ”إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَيَهْدِي لِسَانَكَ وَيُثَبِّتُ قَلْبَكَ“ قَالَ فَمَا شَكَكْتُ فِي قَضَاءٍ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ بَعْدُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was still very young when the Messenger of Allah sent me to Yemen. I said: You are sending me to people among whom there will be disputes, and I do not possess the knowledge to make judgments. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will set your tongue right and strengthen your heart. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that, I never hesitated in making decisions between two people.
