It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) used to serve the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after completing his service, he would go to the mosque; the mosque was his home, he would lie down there. One night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque and found him lying on the ground of the mosque. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nudged him slightly with his blessed foot, and he sat up straight. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I see you sleeping here?" Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Do I have any home other than this? If I do not sleep here, then where should I sleep?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down beside him and said: "What will be your condition when people drive you out from here?" He said: "I will go towards Syria, for Syria is the land of migration, the land of resurrection, and the region of the noble Prophets. Thus, I will become a resident there." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When people drive you out from Syria as well, then what will be your condition?" He said: "Then I will return to Madinah; this is my home and this is my refuge." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When people drive you out from here a second time, then what will be your condition?" He said: "Then I will take up my sword and defend myself until death." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled, placed his blessed hand upon him, and said: "Shall I not tell you something better than this?" He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Please do tell." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wherever they take you, keep going along with them, until in that state you meet me."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The reality of the situation was that during the first six years of the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu, the expansion of conquests and the abundance of war booty (mal-e-ghanīmah) had made luxury and comfort widespread. The region of Sham (Greater Syria) was most affected by this worldliness. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu would openly preach against these governors and wealthy individuals, which would cause disruption in the system of governance. Therefore, at the request of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radi Allahu anhu, Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu summoned him to Madinah. However, Madinah was no longer the same as before; large mansions of outsiders had already been built. Thus, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu, disheartened even here, chose to reside in a village called Rabadhah.
