It is narrated from Sayyida Hafsa bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me one day and placed his garment between his thighs. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and sought permission to enter; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission and remained seated in the same state. After him, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and sought permission to enter; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also granted him permission and remained seated in the same state. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and sought permission to enter; he too was granted permission, and the Messenger of Allah remained seated in the same state. Then some other companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and sought permission to enter; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them permission as well, while he remained in the same state. After them, when Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and sought permission to enter, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged and adjusted his clothes and then granted Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) permission to enter. They conversed for a while, and after they got up and left, I (Aisha) said: O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Ali, and other companions came to you, but you did not move and remained seated in the same state. But when Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, you arranged and adjusted your clothes. What is the reason for this difference? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Should I not show modesty to a person before whom even the angels feel shy?

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In these Prophetic statements is mentioned the virtue of Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu and his esteem in the sight of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Since Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu was extremely modest, and the quality of modesty was found in his nature to the highest degree, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also took this aspect of his nature into consideration and adopted even greater seriousness. From these ahadith, it does not necessarily follow in an absolute sense that Sayyiduna Uthman is superior to as-Siddiq and al-Faruq, because this is a partial virtue, due to which he was distinguished from other Companions.
The distinction that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made upon the arrival of these distinguished Companions, every person of sound nature and modesty understands it.
