It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hawalah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I presented myself in the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), at that time he was sitting in the shade of a mound, a scribe was sitting beside him and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was dictating something to him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ibn Hawalah! Shall I have your name written as well? I said: I do not know what Allah and His Messenger have chosen for me in this matter. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from me. Ismail, the narrator, said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ibn Hawalah! Shall we register you as well? I said: O Messenger of Allah! I do not know in what matter I am being registered. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from me. In another narration, it is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ibn Hawalah! Shall we write your name as well? I said: O Messenger of Allah! I do not know in what matter the names are being written. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to his scribe and continued dictating to him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ibn Hawalah! Shall we write your name as well? I said: I do not know what Allah and His Messenger are choosing for me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from me and continued dictating to his scribe. Then when I looked, I saw that the name of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was written in that book. I thought in my heart: The name of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) can only be written in matters of goodness. Meanwhile, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) again said to me: O Ibn Hawalah! Shall we write your name as well? I said: Yes. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ibn Hawalah! What will you do in that tribulation which will be like the horns of a cow (very severe and full of difficulties) and will spread throughout the corners of the earth? I said: I do not know what Allah and His Messenger prefer for me. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Well, what will you do in that second tribulation which will occur after it, and (it will be so severe that) the first one will seem like a rabbit’s leap (very light and brief) in comparison? I said: I do not know what Allah and His Messenger prefer for me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: At that time, follow that person. At that time, a man was walking and his back was towards us. I went, ran, and caught his shoulders and turned him towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! This man? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. So he was Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this blessed hadith, two tribulations (fitnahs) have been clarified. From hadith number (12247), it is understood that the tribulation in which Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu was to be martyred refers to the first tribulation. After this tribulation, such a sequence of tribulations began that it did not cease at all. We ask Allah Ta'ala for well-being (aafiyah) in this world and the Hereafter.
