Hadith 12212

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I used to enter that house in which Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and my father were buried, I would even remove my covering there and would say that one is my husband and the other is my father. But by Allah! When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was buried there, I would enter wrapped in my clothes out of modesty before him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Some people have tried to deduce from this hadith that the friends of Allah (awliya Allah) can see even from within the grave; that is why Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha used to observe veil (purdah) after the burial of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu.

To such people, it is submitted: If Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu could see through four or five maunds of earth, then what barrier would that piece of cloth present, with which Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha used to observe veil? The implication of this argument is that the friend of Allah can see through earth, but cannot see through cloth. Subhan Allah!

This is not the place for a detailed discussion of this topic. This was a natural matter of Sayyidah Aisha and, in her mind, the status and rank of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu.
