It is narrated from Abu Sinan Duwali that he went to Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), while a group of the earliest emigrants was sitting with him. He sent a message and had a box of perfume brought, which had been brought from a fortress in Iraq. There was a ring in it. One of his sons brought it and put it in his mouth. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took it out of his mouth. After that, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep. Someone among those present said to him: Why are you weeping, when Allah has granted you victory and has cooled your eyes by giving you dominance over the enemy? Sayyiduna Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that when Allah expands the world for a servant, He places enmity and hatred among those people until the Day of Resurrection. And I fear this matter.
