عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”بَيْنَمَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُنِي فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ تَتَوَضَّأُ إِلَى جَنْبِ قَصْرٍ فَقُلْتُ لِمَنْ هَذَا الْقَصْرُ قَالُوا لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَذَكَرْتُ غَيْرَتَكَ فَوَلَّيْتُ مُدْبِرًا“ وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حِينَ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسٌ عِنْدَهُ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ فَبَكَى عُمَرُ حِينَ سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَعَلَيْكَ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ أَغَارُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I was sleeping, and in a dream I saw myself in Paradise. A woman was performing ablution beside a palace. I asked, "Whose palace is this?" They said, "It belongs to Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him." Umar! (I wanted to enter it but) I remembered your sense of honor, so I turned back. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was relating this, Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was also sitting with the people in your presence. When he heard this from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he began to weep and said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father be sacrificed for you, could I ever feel any sense of honor over you?
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There is no doubt that Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu was characterized to the highest degree with honor and protective jealousy (ghayrah and hamiyyah), but as far as the matter of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was concerned, he was in complete obedience to him sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. First and foremost was obedience, reverence, and regard for him sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and only then came the matter of personal honor.
